πŸƒ Don't Fall Victim to Working in Your Business, Work on Your Business! πŸ’ͺ

🀭 It took me awhile to understand that moving the needle on a business is more than just getting the work done, it requires a vision for the future.

For the first two years of running my SaaS I feel into the trap of working in the business. I was a key β€œemployee” nothing could get done without me and everyone needed my help to get β€œthings done”. I was nearing complete burnout and had to find another way to move the needle forward.

😳 My Problem

For a number of years I didn’t understand how to grow a business, I would have a tasks or several tasks that needed to be done so I would just get them done b/c there was no one else to do them. This lead to slow growth, a backlog of customer asks, and honestly a poor customer experience. I was unable to move the needle on new customers requests, or new ideas since I was always working on the hear and now & at the time I didn’t understand just how much that affected the business overall.

This lead to gaps in our overall company health, such as a lack of book keeping, sine I would β€œdo the book keeping” and that really meant I would ignore it till tax time. This was extremely painful probably set us back overall.

πŸ§ͺ The Solution

It seems simple now looking back but when your in the weeds of daily operation its hard to understand that the solution is delegation of duties. This could be part time help and/or offshore help through some agency or a marketplace like Fiverr, but if you find yourself doing a tasks repeatedly work to offload that task to an employee or contractor when possible. As the leader of an organization whatever your title is you should work on vision and path way.

This means you lay out a vision and then clear the path on how your company can get there, I do this by laying out end of year company goals and then breaking those down into quarterly goals where each quarter mini goal is assigned to someone to complete. This ensures everyone is clear on the core work that must be completed in between the daily grind tasks.

Todays advice was short and sweet but once implemented will save you from burn out and make running your business fun again. It also should be a path to unlock the growth inside your business. This is how you enable others to be successful.
